Crazy Plant Lady

If you follow my stories on Instagram or are my friend on facebook, you might have noticed a lot of green in my posts. Like a lot. Some might even dare to say that I’ve become a crazy plant lady and a little weird. But you know what? I’m totally okay with that. Our new home has tons of windows and a lot of space. In the couple of months that we’ve lived here, I’ve already accumulated over 35 different plants (and we have multiples of some plants!) …and still counting. I’m trying to slow my roll and not pick up so many, but its spring so all the local shops are stocking some cute houseplants.

Yes. HOUSEplants. I love the green, but I’m not hanging out outside with these babies. If there are any plants outside (which there are and are not counted in the plants I’ve mentioned above) those are taken care of by Hubs. I’ve killed succulents, bamboo and orchids, so I was scared that I had a black thumb and never used to care for plants. My husband has always been the green thumb in the family. Last year for my birthday, my friend Jimin gave me a snake plant and it was so low maintenance it survived me and my neglect (husband watered it I’m sure). That, I would say is the first plant in my “collection”. I call him Vegeta. My husband keeps hibiscus trees and vining tropical plants, as well as a few others. He’s currently growing plumeria trees from dormant branches he bought when we were in Hawaii…like 6 years ago.

Many have asked what sparked my interest and love for plants. It may have seemed sudden. But now I think I am ready to share. I recently lost a child I was carrying, 4 months into my pregnancy. I think one (healthy) way that I’ve found to cope with loss, my grief, and that built up nurturing with no child to give it to, was to love and nurture these plants. I immediately became obsessed, caring for and naming them. While it’s definitely not a replacement, it does soothe my soul to be around so much lively plants and they make me happy.

Are you into plants? I hear its a big thing with millennials now (I consider myself a Xennial so don’t group me in)? According to The New Yorker, LA Times, and Business Insider .
When I stumbled into this new obsession, I had no idea it was a cool Instagram thing to do. It literally was just a nonharmful way for me to cope.

What’s on your houseplant wish list?
