Maybe because I am getting older, but I’m beginning to realize my obsession with skincare. Despite being Asian, I know I can’t depend on genes alone. My maman passed away at 49, so I won’t know how well she ages to gauge my genetics.
I do notice that my pores are huge and I’m getting these weird freckles. I refuse to get on the R+F bandwagon after my traumatic experience with Proactiv. After giving birth a few years ago, I did a whole Apoterra Skincare regime that worked SO well, but then I lost momentum when the cleaning ladies threw away my face soap. My French cousin got me into Glossier (use my link for a discount!), and then I started trying out random Korean treatments. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that Sundays are the days for sheet masks, charcoal peels, and even 24k gold stuff.
My Current Daily Regimen
And real talk, this changes every time I get to an empty.
Nighttime routine:
Before the shower, I wipe down my face with Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water (For Waterproof Makeup).
If I wear mascara or eye makeup, I just use a little bit of coconut oil on a cotton pad. It’s much gentler (and cheaper!) than traditional eye makeup remover. Then I wash my face in the shower, using Pacifica Beauty Sea Foam Complete Face Wash.
I’ve looked into other toners, but I seem to come back to the traditional witch hazel. My favorite is Thayer’s, the addition of the rose water gives it a pleasant clean smell.
Then after that, the holy grail of essences… the SKII Facial Treatment Essence. I’ve only heard good things about this so I had to try it. I pour a little into my palm, dab on my problem spots then patting it all over the rest of my face. After that soaks in I follow up with a moisturizer or whatever new Korean skincare product I’m testing out. I’ll probably review each item later on. Stick around, I know my posts are sporadic.
Morning Routine:
Wipe my face down with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. Note that its not the same as the waterproof one.
Afterward, I use the Thayer’s toner. Then the aforementioned essence. I finish off with a priming moisturizer from Glossier. I use the thick cream one, “Rich” when it’s cold and dry out. Then apply my normal, everyday makeup!
That’s pretty much it! It may seem like a lot for someone who usually just washes, and moisturizes (which used to be me) but as you get older you start to notice those fine lines and you start to panic. On Sundays I go the extra mile and work in some exfoliation, derma rolling, sheet masks and all kinds of goodies. It got to the point where I had to start a SEPARATE Instagram account for it.
